The show pits five teams made up of cake sculptors, sugar artists, and pumpkin carvers against each other to produce the ultimate Halloween themed display. The winning team is awarded $50,000.
Special Note: Sugar artist Julie Bashore from Team Bling Bats quit her team following an argument in the first episode. She was replaced by Susan Notter from previously eliminated Team Tarantula. Small Scare Challenge: Create an edible skull in honor of Dia de los Muertos. The winners were Bling Bats.

“Halloween Wars” was my favorite show … until they changed just about everything. In 2021, the show didn't feature pumpkin carvers at all, due to the COVID-19 pandemic which forced them to film earlier in the year, when pumpkins weren't in season.
If the reason for the team's departure was a family emergency, fans have noted that that would also mean there was a rule change ahead of the new season. In the past, individual team members could be replaced by another cake, pumpkin, or sugar artist.
