Megatron (born D-16, formerly Megatronus before his downfall) is the main antagonist of the Transformers franchise. He is a tyrannical overlord and the leader of the Decepticons and the twin brother and arch-enemy of Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots.
The ensuing Golden Age of Cybertron was disrupted by the rise of Megatron, who led the Decepticons against the Autobots. Megatron's eventual defeat resulted in his rebirth as Galvatron through an alliance with the cosmic entity Unicron.
Megatron used to be the cruel and merciless leader of the Decepticons, who fought against Optimus Prime and his Autobots across both Cybertron and Earth. These days, however, he's reformed. He now works with Optimus and his Autobots, as well as G.H.O.S.T., to protect the people of Earth, human and Cybertronian alike.
During the Generation 1 (G1) era Megatron and Optimus were typically shown roughly the same size, both coming in at roughly 6 meters according to official size charts of that era.
