The Jon Snow spinoff of Game of Thrones is no longer in active development at HBO.
The Jon Snow Sequel to 'Game of Thrones' Isn't Happening, Kit Harington Says. Winter is, apparently, not coming back, as Kit Harington shut down talk of a Jon Snow sequel to HBO's massive hit “Game of Thrones.” April 9, 2024, at 5:40 p.m.
“It's not happening,” Harington recently told Entertainment Weekly, “and not happening anytime soon anyway. We bounced some ideas around and nothing really lit us up. It just didn't. I think we don't want to do something that's not worth it.
So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It's firmly on the shelf.” Word of the potential series, a sequel to Game of Thrones centered on Harington's Jon Snow character, got out in June 2022.
Harington, 37, said the series had previously been in development with HBO, but it's since been shut down. The actor said he and HBO creators scrapped the series because they “couldn't find the right story to tell.” News of a Jon Snow spinoff was first reported in 2022, though Harington and HBO were tight-lipped.
